The Embassy Cultural House, 1983-1990, Museum London, London, Ontario, July 28 to October 21, 2012. I’m exhibiting four drawings from The Useless Land series (1988) ‘The Embassy Cultural House tells the story of this London cultural space. From the beginning, the Gallery featured artists who were at the forefront of contemporary art as well as seasoned professionals who still questioned their own practice. Interspersed with the solo exhibitions there were large group exhibitions of work related to current political and social issues. Many international artists had their first Canadian exhibitions there. The exhibition will attempt to recapture the energy, enthusiasm and optimism of the 1980s, documenting many of the site-specific works (lost when the building was destroyed by fire in 2009) and approximately 40 works of art exhibited there, including paintings, scrolls, drawings, sculptures and videos. The exhibition will be accompanied by an exhibition catalogue featuring original texts by curator Robert McKaskell, local historian, Michael Barker and artist Rebecca Diederichs’
